Khatiwada, a UML leader, began his political journey from 2032BS from Banaras, India. He was Nuwakot district secretary of the erstwhile Nepal Communist Party, formed after the unification of CPn (Maoist Centre) and CPN-UML. He was elected to the House of Representatives from Nuwakot-2 in the 2017 elections.
