Gachhadar got associated with the Nepal Students Union in 2027 BS. He was elected central committee member of the Nepali Congress thrice in 2052 BS, 2053 BS and 2056 BS.
Gachhadar became General Secretary of the Nepali Congress (Democratic) from 2060 BS to 2064 BS. He formed a new party Madheshi Janaadhikar Forum (Democratic) and became the party's chairman from 2066 BS to 2074 BS. He entered Nepali Congress in 2074 BS and is currently a central committee member of the party.
He became Deputy Prime Minister five times in 2066 BS, 2068 BS, 2072 BS, 2073 BS and 2074 BS. He became minister five times between 2052 BS to 2059 BS. Gachhadar also served as State Minister for Information and Communications from 2048 BS to 2051 BS.
