Incumbent Minister for Finance Janardan Sharma entered into politics in 2034 BS. He became central committee member of the then CPN (Maoist) in 2056 BS and a politburo member in 2057 BS. He was as picked division commander of the 'people's army' in 2060 BS. He was elected standing committee member of the party in 2070 BS. In 2075 BS, Sharma became a standing committee member of the then Nepal Communist Party and Karnali Province In-charge.
He was a lawmaker in the interim parliament of 2063 BS. Sharma was elected in the constituent assembly elections held in 2064 BS and 2070 BS and reelected in the 2074 polls from Rukum West.
Sharma was Minister for Peace and Reconstruction in 2065 BS, Minister for Energy in 2073 BS, Minister for Home Affairs in 2074 BS and was appointed Finance Minister in 2078 BS.
