Devendra Raj Kandel is a central member of the Nepali Congress. He was elected as a Minister of the Parliament in the Mid-term elections in 2051 BS and member of the House of Representatives in 2056 BS. He was also elected as member of the House of Representatives in 2074 BS from Nawalparasi West-2. Kandel served as the parliamentary party whip in 2056 BS. He served as the Minister of State for Home Affairs from Kartik, 2058 BS to Ashwin, 2059 BS.
