Pokhrel is a leader of the CPN-UML and began his political career through the party’s student wing. He was a Constituent Assembly member in 2070BS from the then UML from Chitwan-3. In the 2017 general elections, Pokhrel was elected House of Representative member from Chitwan-2. He was the chairman of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the lower house in 2075BS.
