Gautam held different positions in the student wing of the party after joining student politics in 2035-36 BS. He also worked as a central committee member and standing committee member of CPN-UML on different occasions. Gautam is currently Province-1 Joint In-charge and Sankhuwasabha district In-charge of the party.
